Wike defends FCT policies

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday used a media briefing in Abuja to defend his administration’s policies, highlighting achievements in infrastructure development, revenue generation and urban renewal while taking aim at political opponents and critics.

During the press conference, Wike said the FCT Administration had made significant progress in road construction, rehabilitation of public facilities and the completion of several abandoned projects. He maintained that the ongoing transformation of Abuja was evidence of the administration’s commitment to improving the nation’s capital.

The minister also defended the enforcement of regulations on land administration, ground rent payments and the removal of illegal structures, insisting that no individual or organisation would be above the law. According to him, the actions were necessary to restore order, improve environmental standards and boost government revenue.

On the political front, Wike dismissed criticisms from opposition figures, arguing that many of his detractors lacked the moral authority to question his performance. He insisted that his focus remains on delivering results for residents of the Federal Capital Territory rather than engaging in unnecessary political distractions.

The former Rivers State governor also addressed issues surrounding national politics, reaffirming his commitment to the administration of President Bola Tinubu and stating that his priority was to support policies aimed at improving governance and economic development.

Responding to questions from journalists, Wike reiterated that his administration would continue to enforce the law without fear or favour, stressing that all residents and property owners must comply with established regulations.

He assured Abuja residents that more infrastructure projects, environmental sanitation programmes and public service reforms would be implemented in the coming months as part of efforts to enhance the quality of life in the Federal Capital Territory.

The media briefing provided the minister with an opportunity to review the performance of the FCT Administration, clarify government policies and respond to issues raised by members of the public and political stakeholders.
