Why Tinubu will clinch FCT in 2027 elections- Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress would record a stronger performance in the FCT ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing growing grassroots support driven by ongoing infrastructural development across the territory.
Wike said residents of the FCT were responding positively to what he described as visible governance, particularly through the extension of infrastructure projects to satellite towns and rural communities.
According to him, Nigerians were more concerned about good governance and improved living conditions than political rhetoric.
“What the people want is simple, they want to feel the impact of governance. It is not about magic. Nigerians are interested in good governance, infrastructure, electricity and improved living conditions,” he said.
The minister spoke after inspecting six projects being prepared for commissioning ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary celebration in Abuja.
Wike disclosed that no fewer than 20 projects would be ready for inauguration, adding that the number could increase as work progressed on additional projects.
“I said not less than 20 projects, but it may even be more than 20 because I did not include the water projects at Bwari and Karu. There are also projects in AMAC and Bwari Area Councils,” he said.
He listed additional road projects, including the Gomani-Yangoji Road and the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road, stressing that the spread of infrastructure across satellite towns marked a new phase of development in the FCT.
“I think it will be interesting for the public to see governance in action. I wonder where the opposition or coalition members are. They should come and see what is happening in the FCT,” he added.
The minister also said work had reached advanced stages at the Abuja Appeal Court Complex in Dakibiyu, Judges’ Quarters in Katampe, internal roads in Katampe District, and the new relocation site for the Apo Mechanic Village.
According to him, the administration remained committed to inclusive development and improved welfare for residents across the territory.
“At the informal sector site where Apo Mechanic Village traders will be relocated to, the roads and streetlights are already completed. What is remaining now is water connection. I also came with security officials so they can commence work on the police station and police residential quarters,” he said.
On the judiciary, Wike dismissed claims of preferential treatment, insisting that the administration was supporting all sectors equally.
“For the judiciary to be independent, you must provide the necessary infrastructure, welfare and working conditions. It is not only about the judiciary. We are also providing water, schools and other basic needs for Nigerians,” he said.
He maintained that the ongoing projects across the FCT reflected an inclusive development agenda, especially in rural and satellite communities, which he said were now benefiting from infrastructure
for the first time in decades.

Criminals, not bandit killed army officer- Police
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that five persons, including a soldier and a local hunter, died during a violent attack in Magbon Etido, Mowe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident was an “isolated criminal attack” and not a bandit operation as speculated in some quarters.
According to the command, the attackers struck the community, killing a soldier who was on security duty and injuring another military personnel, who is currently receiving treatment.
The assailants also abducted four residents during the raid. Babaseyi said police operatives, working alongside the military and other security agencies, immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
He added that one of the abducted victims was rescued alive, while the remains of the other three were later recovered during the operation.
During the subsequent bush-combing exercise, a local hunter assisting security operatives was reportedly killed in an encounter with the fleeing suspects.
“The Command extends its condolences to his family,” the statement said, while assuring that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
