North loses two illustrious people in Egypt within 10 days

The north has lost two of its illustrious people in Egypt. The two died in Egypt between March 26 and April 6, 2026.

One of them is the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammad Usman Ankwai, passed away on April 6.

Ankwai, who represented Zuru Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected Speaker at the inauguration of the 10th Assembly on June 8, 2023.

Details surrounding the circumstances of his death were not immediately disclosed at the time of filing this report.

His death has, however, triggered an outpouring of condolences from fellow lawmakers, political associates, and residents across Kebbi State, many of whom have described him as a dedicated public servant who contributed to legislative development in the state.

The second person was the mother of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The woman reportedly died on March 26 and has been buried.

El’Rufai, who was in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). was released temporarily to attend the late mother’s funeral.
