Monarch bars federal lawmaker from palace
A member of the House of Representatives, Lukman Mudashiru, who represents Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency, has been barred from entering his palace of Oluwo of Iwo.
The Osun State monarch, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, who barred Mudashiru, a member of the Accord Party announced the decision in a statement shared via his official Facebook page on Friday.
He accused the lawmaker of neglecting traditional institutions in Iwoland.
According to the statement, the traditional ruler expressed dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s failure to maintain engagement with the palace and the community’s heritage structures.
Prior to the announcement, the monarch had publicly endorsed another indigene of Iwo, Ayodeji Bello, who is seeking the Accord ticket for the same federal constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the statement, Oba Akanbi said, “the position of the Oluwo demands respect and accountability from elected representatives within the district.
“Oluwo is an entity. He is the traditional head of the town.”
It added, “By virtue of these pedigrees, Oluwo deserves the most traditional honour in the district. If you are a politician representing any or all areas in the district, you owe Oluwo a stewardship explanation.”
The monarch maintained that political office holders in the district are expected to provide updates on their activities to the traditional leadership.
“Either directly or indirectly, you are representing the interest of his district. Traditionally, he heads the district, so also is the stewardship account from both elective and appointed political holders,” the statement added.
Sources indicated that the monarch had earlier made remarks criticising the lawmaker for allegedly sidelining traditional authorities in Iwoland.
The statement also declared that Mudashiru would no longer be allowed access to the palace, reinforcing the monarch’s stance on the matter.
When contacted for his reaction, Mudashiru described the situation as a personal matter, saying, “It is an issue between a father and his son. It will be resolved because it is a family affair.”

Criminals, not bandit killed army officer- Police
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that five persons, including a soldier and a local hunter, died during a violent attack in Magbon Etido, Mowe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident was an “isolated criminal attack” and not a bandit operation as speculated in some quarters.
According to the command, the attackers struck the community, killing a soldier who was on security duty and injuring another military personnel, who is currently receiving treatment.
The assailants also abducted four residents during the raid. Babaseyi said police operatives, working alongside the military and other security agencies, immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
He added that one of the abducted victims was rescued alive, while the remains of the other three were later recovered during the operation.
During the subsequent bush-combing exercise, a local hunter assisting security operatives was reportedly killed in an encounter with the fleeing suspects.
“The Command extends its condolences to his family,” the statement said, while assuring that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
