Jealous man kills girlfriend in farm
A man in Cross River State has allegedly killed his girlfriend, Moshe, in a farm.
He reportedly concealed her body in the bush over alleged infidelity.
The deceased, who hailed from Ibil community, had been cohabiting with the suspect identified as Nwang from Ekpugrinya, without a formal engagement or payment of bride price, her family stated.
“The man brutally killed my cousin in the farm even though he had not paid the bride price or observed customary rites,” said Joy Philip, a cousin of the deceased, expressing grief. “Moshe, may your spirit find peace while your killer faces justice,” she added, tears running down her cheeks.
The suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody. However, at the time of filing this report, a large group of women had besieged the Ogoja Divisional Police Station, demanding the suspect be released to them for vigilante justice.
“Cruelty like this exists because the system has failed us. The man snuffed the life out of another human being and does not deserve to live. We are ready to deliver justice ourselves,” said Uduma, one of the protesting women.
A source at the Ogoja Police Station said the Divisional Police Officer was unavailable for comment and stated that the police would not accede to the demands of the women protesters.

Criminals, not bandit killed army officer- Police
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that five persons, including a soldier and a local hunter, died during a violent attack in Magbon Etido, Mowe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident was an “isolated criminal attack” and not a bandit operation as speculated in some quarters.
According to the command, the attackers struck the community, killing a soldier who was on security duty and injuring another military personnel, who is currently receiving treatment.
The assailants also abducted four residents during the raid. Babaseyi said police operatives, working alongside the military and other security agencies, immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
He added that one of the abducted victims was rescued alive, while the remains of the other three were later recovered during the operation.
During the subsequent bush-combing exercise, a local hunter assisting security operatives was reportedly killed in an encounter with the fleeing suspects.
“The Command extends its condolences to his family,” the statement said, while assuring that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
