ISWAP attacks two police stations, kill four officers, one hunter
Four policemen and a hunter have been reportedly killed in attacks launched by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP members on two police stations in Nganzai, Nganzai Local Government Area, and Damasak, in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State.
During the attack on Saturday, the insurgents were said to have deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, and caused damage to a section of the station and partially burnt an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
The spokesman of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Kenneth-Daso, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying four policemen and a hunter lost their lives in the attacks.
He however noted that the attacks were successfully repelled and normalcy restored in the areas.
“On 4th April 2026 at about 0100hrs, armed terrorists suspected to be members of Boko Haram/ISWAP attacked the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in an attempt to overrun the town. Police Divisional officers, in collaboration with PMF operatives and Crack Squad on special duty, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
“In a related incident on 4th April 2026 at about 0240hrs, the terrorists attacked Mallam Fatori IDP Camp in Damasak, targeting a CJTF/Hunters duty post at the entrance of the camp. During the attack, one member of the Hunters Group, Atom Abua (40 years), lost his life, while about twenty thatched houses and properties were destroyed,” the statement partly read.
“The attackers, deployed Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and other sophisticated weapons, caused damage to a section of the station and partially burnt an unserviceable Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC). Regrettably, four police personnel paid the supreme price in the line of duty,” it added.
According to the Command spokesman, in both instances, combined teams of the police, military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters responded swiftly, repelled the attackers, and prevented further damage.
He said the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended the bravery and resilience of the officers who confronted the assailants and prevented them from overrunning the town.
The CP also commiserated with the families of the slain officers, assuring them that the Command was committed to tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
Abdulmajid called on the public to remain calm, vigilant, and continue to support security agencies with credible information.
On March 13, 2026, suspected terrorists detobated IEDs in Maiduguri, killing at least 23 people and injuring many others.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, while confirming the incidents, said preliminary reports revealed the explosions happened at the Post Office area and the main entrance of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

Criminals, not bandit killed army officer- Police
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that five persons, including a soldier and a local hunter, died during a violent attack in Magbon Etido, Mowe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident was an “isolated criminal attack” and not a bandit operation as speculated in some quarters.
According to the command, the attackers struck the community, killing a soldier who was on security duty and injuring another military personnel, who is currently receiving treatment.
The assailants also abducted four residents during the raid. Babaseyi said police operatives, working alongside the military and other security agencies, immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
He added that one of the abducted victims was rescued alive, while the remains of the other three were later recovered during the operation.
During the subsequent bush-combing exercise, a local hunter assisting security operatives was reportedly killed in an encounter with the fleeing suspects.
“The Command extends its condolences to his family,” the statement said, while assuring that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
