FirstBank appoints Omodayo-Owotuga Executive Director

First Bank of Nigeria has appointed Dr. Julius B. Omodayo-Owotuga as Executive Director, effective May 13, 2026, in a move aimed at strengthening the bank’s leadership in finance, governance, risk management, and business transformation.

The appointment was disclosed in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange by the bank’s parent company, First HoldCo Plc, which described Omodayo-Owotuga as a seasoned professional with over 24 years of experience spanning banking, infrastructure finance, power, oil and gas, auditing, and consulting.

According to the board, the appointment “reinforces the group’s focus on strong governance, disciplined execution, financial resilience, and sustainable long-term growth across its businesses.”

Omodayo-Owotuga is widely regarded in corporate circles for his turnaround and restructuring expertise, particularly from his roles at Ardova Plc, formerly Forte Oil Plc, and Geregu Power Plc.

He has held senior positions across financial institutions and corporate organisations, with responsibilities covering finance, treasury operations, risk management, internal controls, and advisory services.

His academic qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctorate in Business Administration. He is also an alumnus of Saïd Business School, IE Business School, Geneva Business School, and University of Lagos.

Professionally, he is a CFA Charterholder, a KPMG-trained accountant, and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, and the Institute of Credit Administration. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors Nigeria.

His career has included stints at Africa Finance Corporation, Standard Chartered Bank, KPMG, and MBC International Bank, now First Bank of Nigeria Limited.

At Ardova Plc, he served as Group Executive Director in charge of Finance and Risk Management, while at Geregu Power Plc he was Deputy Chief Executive, overseeing governance, operations, financing activities, and the company’s listing on the Nigerian Exchange.

Before his latest appointment, Omodayo-Owotuga served as a Non-Executive Director on the board of First HoldCo Plc from 2021 to 2026. The bank said his appointment has received approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The board of First Bank of Nigeria Limited is chaired by Ebenezer Olufowose, while Olusegun Alebiosu serves as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
