The Benue State Government has intensified efforts to position the state as a preferred destination for foreign direct investment (FDI), unveiling a comprehensive strategy aimed at attracting international investors, stimulating economic growth and creating sustainable employment opportunities.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader economic transformation agenda designed to unlock the state’s vast agricultural, mineral and industrial potential while improving the ease of doing business for local and foreign investors.
State officials said the investment drive is focused on showcasing Benue’s comparative advantages in agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, renewable energy, tourism and infrastructure development, sectors considered critical to accelerating inclusive economic growth.
According to the government, the renewed push for foreign investment seeks to diversify the state’s economy, increase internally generated revenue, expand industrial activities and improve the livelihoods of residents through increased private sector participation.
Speaking on the initiative, government representatives stressed that Benue possesses abundant arable land, a youthful workforce and strategic geographical advantages that make it an attractive destination for investment in commercial agriculture and value-added processing.
They noted that the administration is implementing policies aimed at strengthening investor confidence through improved security, transparent governance, infrastructure development and business-friendly regulations.
The government further explained that engagements with international development partners, diplomatic missions, global investors and multinational companies are being intensified to promote investment opportunities across the state.
Officials added that priority projects have been identified for public-private partnerships (PPPs), particularly in transportation, energy, housing, healthcare, education and industrial development.
The administration also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting investors through streamlined approval processes, enhanced regulatory transparency and incentives designed to encourage long-term investments.
Economic analysts described the initiative as a strategic step towards harnessing Benue’s enormous economic potential, particularly in agriculture, where the state is widely regarded as Nigeria’s “Food Basket of the Nation.”
They observed that increased foreign investment could accelerate the development of agro-industrial value chains, improve food processing capacity, boost exports and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for residents.
Analysts further noted that attracting foreign capital would help bridge infrastructure gaps, facilitate technology transfer, enhance productivity and strengthen the state’s competitiveness within Nigeria and across regional markets.
The investment drive is also expected to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through improved access to markets, financing opportunities and partnerships with international businesses.
As part of the strategy, the Benue State Government pledged to maintain continuous engagement with investors and development partners while implementing reforms aimed at ensuring a stable, predictable and competitive business environment.
The government expressed optimism that the renewed investment campaign would position Benue as one of Nigeria’s leading investment destinations, leveraging its abundant natural resources, agricultural strengths and strategic location to drive long-term economic prosperity and sustainable development.
