2027: Why ADC may collapse– Fayose
Ayodele Fayose, a former governor of Ekiti State, has explained why the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may collapse ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He unequivocally said the opposition party will disintegrate if Peter Obi fails to secure the party’s ticket
Fayose who made the remark while speaking to Channels Television on the sidelines of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention in Abuja, where he assessed the emerging political alignments ahead of the next general polls.
“If Obi is not on the ballot of ADC, that is the end of ADC. It looks like that now that Obi will not (be on the ballot),” he said.
The former governor, however, described Obi as a “fantastic” individual, acknowledging his influence in the 2023 elections, but expressed doubt about his chances of clinching the presidency in 2027.
“Obi is a good, fantastic guy, but to become president at this time is difficult,” Fayose stated.
He also suggested that internal dynamics within opposition parties could limit Obi’s options, questioning whether he would accept a running mate position.
“Today, Kwankwaso has returned to the party. Atiku will get the ticket. Will Obi go back to be a vice presidential candidate?” he queried.
Fayose further ruled out the possibility of Obi returning to the Labour Party, citing internal divisions.
“That is impossible; there is a wedge everywhere,” he added.
Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Fayose argued that Obi’s performance was driven more by personal appeal than party structure.
“PDP is not Obi. Obi did not ride on the strength of his party,” he said, adding, “If Obi goes to Accord now, he will make some impact more than ADC. We are talking about a person.”
