VC demands summary dismissal of military officers
The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Odunayo Adebooye, has called for the trial and summary dismissal of soldiers accused of attacking students at privately owned hostels in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, the vice chancellor alleged that the soldiers, said to be military recruits, assaulted students during the incident, with some female students reportedly subjected to inappropriate touching.
Adebooye also alleged that the attackers stole mobile phones belonging to some of the students during the invasion of the hostels.
The university chief dismissed claims that the incident was triggered by students wearing military camouflage, insisting that the allegation was false.
He further described the conduct of the recruits as unacceptable, arguing that those involved were unfit to serve in the Nigerian Army and should face trial and be summarily dismissed if found culpable.
The alleged attack has sparked widespread outrage, with students and other stakeholders demanding a thorough investigation and appropriate sanctions against those responsible.
