Uganda will retaliate if Tehran dares hit us with missiles- Muhoozi
Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued a warning directed at Tehran, suggesting that any missile strike would be met with retaliation.
“If Tehran dares hit us with missiles. We shall retaliate with our own missiles,” he said.
He declared that his country would back Israel if its existence were threatened.
His remarks come amid rising tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, with fears growing that the war could expand.
The effects of the war are already being felt across various places in the world following Iran’s closure of the crucial Strait of Hormuz, a waterway between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.
He also reiterated his long-held position that Israel’s sovereignty must be respected, stating that “Israel has a right to exist and attacks against her must stop.”
Despite the fact that there is no immediate official communication from the Ugandan government, Kainerugaba’s sentiments might be a reflection of the nation’s stand on the conflict.
Uganda has historically maintained close ties with Israel, particularly in defence and intelligence cooperation.
Those relations date back decades and have remained steady even as Kampala balances partnerships with other global powers.
Earlier this year, Kainerugaba announced plans to erect a statue in honour of Yonatan Netanyahu, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s brother, who was killed during the 1976 Entebbe rescue mission.
