Polaris Bank clears air on fire incident

Polaris Bank has clarified circumstances surrounding a fire outbreak that occurred at its Broad Street branch in Lagos, stating that no lives were lost in the incident.

A multi-storey building housing the bank’s branch was engulfed by fire on Thursday, with viral videos on social media showing thick smoke billowing from the premises as residents and business owners gathered around the scene.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, were immediately deployed to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. The cause of the fire had not been established as of the time of filing this report.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Polaris Bank explained that the fire affected the car park of its Broad Street branch and was quickly brought under control.

The bank confirmed that there were no casualties or fatalities, commending emergency services for their swift response.

“Following the fire incident at the Car Park of our Broad Street Branch, Lagos, we are pleased to confirm that the situation was swiftly contained and, thankfully, there were no casualties or fatalities,” the statement said.

“We appreciate the prompt response of emergency services.”

Polaris Bank also dismissed reports circulating online that claimed 34 people died in the incident, describing such information as false and misleading.

The financial institution urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports on social media and rely on credible news sources and its official communication channels for accurate information.

“We urge the public to rely only on credible news platforms and our official channels for accurate information and disregard false reports circulating online,” the bank added.

Authorities are expected to continue investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
