The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted on April 20.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, announced the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, confirming that candidates can now check their scores.

“The results for Monday, April 20, have been released. Candidates can view their results using the usual process,” he stated.

He explained that candidates can check their results by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number (SIM) used during registration.

The 2026 UTME, which began on April 16, is scheduled to end on April 23.

However, the release comes amid earlier complaints from candidates who sat for the examination on April 17 and experienced difficulties accessing their results. Many reported unsuccessful attempts despite repeated efforts.

JAMB had initially indicated that results for the April 17 batch would be released the following day, but the delay led to widespread frustration among candidates.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Benjamin apologised for the delay, explaining that the agency’s Chief Executive was unavailable due to an official engagement.

“We sincerely apologise for the delay in releasing the results for Friday, April 17… We assure you that the results will be released later today,” he said, also acknowledging candidates who stayed up late awaiting the release.

Meanwhile, JAMB disclosed that over two million candidates registered for the 2026 Computer-Based Test nationwide.

According to the board, a total of 2,243,816 candidates registered for the examination—representing a 10.5 per cent increase from the 2.03 million recorded in 2025.

A breakdown of the figures shows that Lagos State recorded the highest number of candidates with 381,814, followed by Ogun State (137,156), Oyo State (122,662), Kaduna State (103,498), and the Federal Capital Territory (102,961).

Outside Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire recorded the highest number of candidates with 32, followed by Equatorial Guinea (16), Burkina Faso (14), and the United Kingdom (12). Countries such as Gambia, Ghana, and South Africa recorded fewer than 10 candidates each.
