A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has rejected claims that the German government turned down his nomination as an ambassador.

The allegation was published by Peoples Gazette, which reported that his proposed diplomatic posting was declined due to concerns over alleged ethnic and religious remarks. The report also stated that President Bola Tinubu had earlier approved his appointment as ambassador-designate to a Central European nation.

According to the publication, German authorities reportedly refused the nomination on March 13, 2026, citing what they described as Fani-Kayode’s “erratic behaviour” and “controversial past statements,” including comments viewed as ethnically and religiously divisive. These remarks were said to be considered “destabilising.”

The report further claimed that a senior government official suggested he could be reassigned as ambassador to South Africa.

Reacting to the claims on his official X account, Fani-Kayode dismissed the report as false and politically motivated. He accused opposition figures of attempting to damage his reputation and block his appointment.

He maintained that critics were unhappy with his nomination and were working to discredit him. Despite the controversy, he affirmed his readiness to serve the country, insisting he would not be deterred.

“Fake news everywhere. These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment, and they are doing everything to discredit me and scuttle it. Whether they like it or not, I will serve my country! Keep crying!” he wrote
