Five of 20 travellers burnt to death

No fewer than five persons were reportedly burnt to death, while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a lone auto crash along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State on Thursday.
The accident occurred at about 11:12 a.m. around the Iyana Egbado area of the expressway.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole, confirmed the incident in a statement made available to journalists.
According to him, the crash involved a white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD809XC carrying 20 passengers, comprising six adult males, 11 adult females, one male child and two female children.
Odunsi-Oyewole disclosed that five persons lost their lives in the accident, including one adult male, two adult females, one male child and one female child.
He added that 10 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, while five persons escaped unhurt.
“The lone crash involved one white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD809XC. A total of twenty persons were involved in the crash, comprising six adult males, eleven adult females, one male child, and two female children,” he said.
“Out of the twenty persons involved, five persons were killed, comprising one adult male, two adult females, one male child, and one female child. Ten persons sustained varying degrees of injuries, while five persons escaped unhurt.”
The FRSC spokesperson attributed the crash to speeding and overloading.
He noted that the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Ifo, and Oreofe Specialist Hospital, Itori, for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.
Reacting to the incident, the Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Oludare Ogunjobi, sympathised with the families of the victims and cautioned motorists against speeding, overloading and other traffic violations.
He also urged drivers to obey traffic regulations, especially during the festive period.
