Details of more ministers to be sacked revealed

The President Bola Tinubu government is not done with its cabinet reshuffle, a top government official has told News Diggers.

The source said the president will in due course sack more ministers and bring in  capable hands that will help achieve his renewed hope agenda.

“ The President is not happy with some of his ministers. He’s completely disappointed by their performance and can’t wait to show them the exit door,” the source said.

The source who refused to disclose the names of the would-be victims, however, gave clues of who the ministers could be.

“I can tell you that the president is saddened by the security situation and unfortunately, that is one of the things that the opposition is latching onto to discredit his administration. Someone will have to go in that area. I can assure you of that.

“Another minister who will be affected hails from the Northeast. He recently made an embarrassing remark about money released to his ministry and hinged that on why certain things couldn’t be done. Who does that and who permits such person who exposes the government to remain in his cabinet?  Even if the president would want to spare him, some, who hate his face are not giving up on his removal. You can be sure they won’t give up until they see him booted out.”

Continuing, the source said: “ The third minister didn’t resign to pursue his political ambition. In fact, he was supposed to resign before the deadline given by the president for appointees with political ambitions to resign but he feared that he would not get the party’s ticket because he’s not in the good books of the APC power brokers. But because of the impending sack, he will be given a soft landing to exit the government.  Some top party officials have described his imminent exit as a good riddance to bad rubbish.

“The fourth minister is what people in the villa see as surplus to requirement.  His impact is not being felt at all and there have been serious complaints against him. The president is not comfortable with his performance at all and his sack letter will soon be delivered to him.”

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday axed his right-hand man and minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy, Wale Edun.

Edun has worked closely with Tinubu for ages. He was appointed Lagos State commissioner of finance in 1999 when Tinubu was the governor. Prior to his appointment as minister, Edun was also the board chairman The Nation Newspaper owned by Tinubu. He held the ministerial position for 32 months before his ouster.

Edun’s sack was announced on Tuesday following a minor cabinet reshuffle in the membership of the Federal Executive Council approved by the president.

According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, two cabinet members, Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa, are to leave the cabinet while their replacements have been named.

He has been directed to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who is now to take over as minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy. Oyedele was formerly a minister of state in the ministry.

Also, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.

The memo also directed Dangiwa to hand over to the minister of state in the ministry.

The memo stated that all handover and takeover processes should be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.

Explaining the president’s decision, Akume said: “These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He said the president, in approving the cabinet reshuffle, has fully exercised his powers as conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

The president thanked the outgoing ministers for their services to the nation while wishing them the best in all their future endeavours.

The president, Akume noted, equally assured all cabinet members that the process of reinvigoration shall be continuous.
