Speaking during a livestream with Davrel, the Grammy-nominated Afrobeat star explained that he believes it is possible to balance public office with artistic pursuits, although he acknowledged that his level of activity might reduce.
“I would still be performing if I ever chose to work for the government. That doesn’t stop anything, in my opinion,” he said. “It won’t be as much as it was before, of course.”
Davido pointed to former Haitian President Michel Martelly as an example, noting that Martelly remained active in music while in office.
“Even while president of Haiti, Michel Martelly continued to perform as a musician. He even went on tours while serving as president,” he added.
Despite his comments, the singer clarified that he is no longer considering a career in politics. He said that after observing the experiences of Nigerian celebrities who ventured into public office, many of whom he believes have struggled to make significant impact, he has reconsidered his earlier interest.
Davido added that current political realities in Nigeria have further influenced his decision to stay focused on his music career.
