Bloodbath as military clash with terrorists  

Several high-profile terrorist commanders and more than 50 insurgents have been killed following a series of military airstrikes in the Lake Chad region under Operation Hadin Kai.

According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the strikes were conducted on May 31 around the Kirta and Arina Ciki areas, targeting known terrorist enclaves and logistics hubs based on actionable intelligence reports.

The publication reported that post-strike battle damage assessments confirmed the deaths of key insurgent figures, including Khalifa Umar, a prominent member of the terrorists’ Shura Council from Sigir. Two other field commanders, identified as Abdallah and Abduljalil, were also among those killed.

Military sources quoted by the publication said the operation resulted in the elimination of more than 50 terrorists and dealt a significant blow to the group’s operational capabilities.

In addition to the casualties, several logistics facilities, supply depots, and life-support structures allegedly used by the insurgents were destroyed during the offensive, further weakening their ability to sustain operations across the Lake Chad Basin.

The sustained aerial campaign is said to have increased pressure on insurgent groups, forcing many fighters to abandon their traditional island hideouts and relocate to more exposed positions on the mainland.

Security sources described the overall situation in the theatre of operations as calm but fluid, stressing the need for continued vigilance by troops and security agencies.

They, however, expressed confidence in the combat readiness, morale, and operational effectiveness of personnel engaged in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign.

The latest operation is expected to consolidate recent gains recorded by the armed forces and strengthen ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the Lake Chad region.
