Adeleke: My performance, vision will earn Osun voters’ support for second term

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has expressed confidence that his administration’s record in office, development agenda and plans for the state will convince voters to support his bid for a second term in the 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke spoke on Tuesday during the ARISE News Osun 2026 Governorship Town Hall in Osogbo, where he fielded questions on his administration’s performance, security, infrastructure, workers’ welfare, the state’s finances and his plans for the future. The town hall brought together leading contenders in the governorship race ahead of the August 2026 election.

The governor maintained that his administration should be judged by its tangible achievements rather than political rhetoric, arguing that the projects executed across the state provide evidence of the direction in which his government is taking Osun.

A major focus of Adeleke’s presentation was his development vision for the state. He highlighted infrastructure renewal, economic development, job creation, improved public services and the responsible management of state resources as key priorities of his administration.

On the state’s finances, Adeleke insisted that Osun’s resources would remain dedicated to the development of Osun, stressing that government revenue should be channelled into infrastructure, employment opportunities and programmes that directly benefit residents.

The governor also pointed to his administration’s intervention in workers’ and pensioners’ welfare, including the payment of outstanding pension obligations. He cited the clearance of pension-related backlogs running into billions of naira as part of his administration’s efforts to restore confidence among workers and retirees.

Security was another major issue discussed during the town hall. Adeleke said his administration holds regular security meetings and has strengthened the operations of the Amotekun security outfit as part of efforts to protect lives and property across the state.

The governor also defended his public personality and his penchant for dancing, which has frequently been used by political opponents to criticise his administration. Adeleke argued that his personal style does not interfere with his responsibilities as governor, insisting that governance should ultimately be measured by results.

With the election approaching, Adeleke projected confidence in his chances of securing another mandate. He maintained that the people of Osun, rather than political forces outside the state, would ultimately determine who governs them, while rejecting suggestions that federal influence could dictate the outcome.

The 2026 contest is expected to be highly competitive, with Adeleke facing a strong challenge from the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as well as other contenders. The governor’s central argument is that his administration’s record should speak louder than campaign promises and that voters will reward what they consider genuine development.

As the election campaign enters its decisive stage, Adeleke is seeking to transform his record in office into a second-term mandate, presenting his vision as one centred on continued infrastructure development, economic growth, workers’ welfare, security and keeping Osun’s resources focused on the people of the state.
