ADC denies ‘misleading’ report
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports claiming that a group led by Mr. Nafiu Bala Gombe uploaded the names of a presidential candidate and other party nominees to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal, describing the reports as false and misleading.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the clarification in a post on X on Monday, insisting that the claim was “a blatant lie” and could be easily disproved.
According to Abdullahi, INEC does not grant access to its nomination portal or issue nomination codes to any leadership it does not officially recognise. He added that the electoral commission would not issue multiple nomination codes to the same political party.
He argued that if such a practice were allowed, any individual could upload names to the portal and falsely claim to be the legitimate leadership of a political party.
“The question, therefore, is straightforward: where is the evidence of this purported upload by a group of individuals not known by law or the electoral body?” he asked.
The ADC spokesperson also alleged that documents purportedly originating from INEC may have been forged and used without authorisation in a manner capable of misleading the public and undermining confidence in the electoral commission.
He said the party had formally drawn INEC’s attention to the matter and urged the commission to investigate the alleged forgery and take appropriate steps to address what it described as a misrepresentation.
Abdullahi expressed confidence that INEC would investigate the allegations and act to protect the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
