ADC chairman found dead in suspicious circumstances

Tension and grief have enveloped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State following the reported death of the party’s chairman in Udenu Local Government Area, Hon. Chisimdiri Emmanuel Ngwu, under circumstances suspected to involve foul play.

Ngwu, described as one of the longest-serving members of the ADC in the state, was reportedly found dead in the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2026, shortly after leaving his residence.

A family source told our correspondent that Ngwu woke up early that morning, left the house and did not return alive.

“He woke up early in the morning on Wednesday and walked out and that was the last we heard of him,” the source said.

According to the source, the family became concerned after discovering that Ngwu was missing and later found his lifeless body in front of their compound.

“When we woke up, we didn’t see him, only to discover his lifeless body in front of our compound. We saw scratches on his neck which was twisted backwards,” the source added.

The circumstances surrounding his death have sparked concern among members of his family, political associates and supporters of the ADC.

Two persons have reportedly been arrested in connection with the incident, although their identities and the circumstances surrounding their arrest were not immediately known.

The spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, could not immediately confirm the incident, saying he was not aware of the development.

However, the immediate past chairman of the ADC in Enugu State, Mrs. Stella Chukwuma, confirmed Ngwu’s death.

Chukwuma spoke after the state leadership of the party returned from a condolence visit to the deceased’s family, saying the account given by the family raised concerns about possible foul play.

“From what the family members told us, he woke up on Wednesday and left the house, only to be seen later as a dead man with bruises on his neck and chest while his head was twisted backwards,” she said.

Chukwuma alleged that the injuries were consistent with strangulation, adding that the circumstances surrounding Ngwu’s death warranted further investigation.

The death has plunged the ADC family in Udenu and beyond into mourning, coming at a time when political activities are gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
