Abductions: Minister talks tough, advises Nigerians
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned against politicising the abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State, stressing that every kidnapping incident should attract equal concern regardless of where it occurs or who is affected.
Wike, who expressed concern over the plight of the victims, said the government was making efforts to secure their release and urged Nigerians not to exploit the tragedy for political gains.
The minister spoke on Thursday while inspecting projects scheduled for inauguration by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, kidnapping remains a matter of national concern that requires collective attention rather than political debates.
“The mere fact that somebody’s been kidnapped should be a sense of concern to any government,” Wike said.
“Security is for everybody. And I know that the government is doing everything possible to see that those who are kidnapped are being released. But, why should we politicise it?”
His remarks come amid growing public concern over the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, with calls mounting for intensified rescue efforts and improved security across affected communities.
