Nigerians are reacting to former Director of Defence Information Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd) death in bandits’ den.

Abubakar, on Saturday lost the battle for his life 15 days after he was abducted along with his wife by bandits in Katsina State.

President Bola Tinubu mourned his death and vowed that under no circumstance would the federal government negotiate with terrorists.

Reacting to the death of General Rabe Abubakar, President Bola Tinubu declared that the federal government would  not negotiate with terrorists under any circumstances.

The President said the death of the retired military officer should strengthen Nigeria’s resolve to confront terrorism and insurgency without compromise, insisting that those responsible for violence against citizens remain enemies of the nation.

“General Abubakar’s death should further serve as a defining moment in our battle against terrorists and insurgents, never to negotiate with them on any terms, but to continue to treat them as the greatest enemies of our dear nation, who should never be spared,” the President said in a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

He maintained that the administration would remain steadfast in its campaign against terrorism, warning bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements to surrender or face decisive action from the state.

Reiterating his Democracy Day message, Tinubu said: “Bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror should now surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever. And no mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians.”

The President added that Nigerians must remain united in the fight against insecurity, expressing confidence that the country would ultimately prevail over terrorist groups and criminal networks.

“As Nigerians, we must stand united and be assured that the enemies of our nation shall soon be history. We will triumph over terror and continue to build a more prosperous nation,” he said.

He said while the terrorists have done their worst they should know government would never bow to their demand for the release of their members held in the custody of the security agencies.

Tinubu described the death of the retired Major-General as a painful loss, noting that Abubakar had served the nation with distinction during his military career before retiring from active service.

The President sympathised with the bereaved family especially the widow ,Hajiya Amina Abubakar,who is still in captivity, the government and people of Katsina State as well as the Armed Forces of Nigeria over the loss.

Tinubu prayed for the repose of the late general’s soul and assured Nigerians that security agencies would continue their efforts to defeat terrorists and secure the release of all victims still being held captive by criminal groups.
