“I personally see this competition as a celebration of knowledge, hard work, discipline, and the limitless potential that resides in our children.”
She noted that education remains one of the most powerful tools for personal growth and societal transformation, adding that “it equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, values, and confidence required to navigate life’s challenges and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
“This is why the Lagos State Government, under the visionary leadership of Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, continues to invest significantly in the education sector through improved infrastructure, teacher development, digital learning initiatives, and policies that enhance access to quality education.
I am encouraged by initiatives such as this competition because they complement government efforts by inspiring students to embrace learning beyond the classroom.”

The First Lady went on to appreciate parents, teachers, school administrators, and mentors who played significant roles in nurturing and guiding the young talents. “Your sacrifices, encouragement, and commitment have helped shape the future leaders, innovators, professionals, and change-makers we celebrate today.
As a mother and advocate for the wellbeing and development of children, I urge all stakeholders to continue creating environments that support learning, creativity, moral values, and character development. Our children deserve every opportunity to thrive and realize their full potential.”
Congratulating the organisers for the successful hosting of the competition, she said: “I encourage you to sustain and expand this initiative so that even more students across Lagos State and beyond can benefit from this platform of intellectual engagement and excellence.

Walking the guests through how the idea was birthed, the convener, informed the gathering that competition started on the 3rd of July, 2025, adding: “Today marks the celebration of excellence, courage, discipline, and the limitless potential that exists within every Nigerian child.
When Sweetthinkers was conceived, it was born from a simple but powerful belief: “brilliance exists everywhere, even in places where opportunities may be limited”.
“We believe that if children are given the right platform, encouragement, and exposure, they can rise beyond mediocrity and become exceptional leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers for our nation.”
Over the course of the competition, she said: “We opened the first stage to over 2,000 pupils drawn from the 23 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) across Lagos State. From that initial stage, we moved to the second stage in October, where about 200 pupils advanced to compete at a higher level of expression, knowledge, and confidence.
“We then proceeded to the third stage with 40 outstanding pupils who earned their place through consistency and excellence. From this group, in March 2026, 8 exceptional finalists emerged, and they are the ones who stand before us today at this Grand Finale.
“To every participating school, thank you for believing in this vision.”

To the teachers and school administrators, thank you for your sacrifices, guidance, and commitment to nurturing these children.
To the parents and guardians, thank you for your support and encouragement behind the scenes.
To our sponsors, partners, and supporters, thank you for choosing to invest in education, excellence, and the future of our nation. Your support has helped make this vision a reality.
To our volunteers and organising team, thank you for your dedication, hard work, and countless hours of service. Events like this succeed because people choose to serve passionately.”
Addressing the pupils, she said: “Nigeria needs young people who are thoughtful, disciplined, innovative, and prepared to make a difference. Looking at every one of you today, I am hopeful for the future.
We believe that education remains one of the strongest tools for national development, and we remain committed to creating opportunities that challenge young minds to think beyond limitations.
As we celebrate these remarkable pupils today, I encourage everyone present to consider how you can support their journey beyond this stage. Whether through sponsorship, mentorship, scholarships, or partnership, your support can help ensure that talent is not limited by circumstance. Criminals, not bandit killed army officer- Police
The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that five persons, including a soldier and a local hunter, died during a violent attack in Magbon Etido, Mowe, in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident was an “isolated criminal attack” and not a bandit operation as speculated in some quarters.
According to the command, the attackers struck the community, killing a soldier who was on security duty and injuring another military personnel, who is currently receiving treatment.
The assailants also abducted four residents during the raid. Babaseyi said police operatives, working alongside the military and other security agencies, immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
He added that one of the abducted victims was rescued alive, while the remains of the other three were later recovered during the operation.
During the subsequent bush-combing exercise, a local hunter assisting security operatives was reportedly killed in an encounter with the fleeing suspects.
“The Command extends its condolences to his family,” the statement said, while assuring that efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
