A coalition of civil society organisations has thrown its weight behind the 2027 political ambitions of Rabiu Kwankwaso, urging Nigerians to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the next general elections.

The Democracy and Good Governance Coalition (DGGC), which said it represents more than 88 civil society organisations, organised a “5 Million Voices for Kwankwaso” solidarity walk in Kano on Monday.
Speaking at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano, the coalition’s leader, Khalifa Dankadai, said the event attracted thousands of participants, including civil society actors, youth groups, women organisations, community leaders, grassroots mobilisers, professionals and supporters from across the country.
Dankadai described the demonstration as a peaceful mobilisation aimed at aligning with the grassroots political philosophy associated with the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
According to him, the large turnout and enthusiasm displayed during the walk reflected growing public demand for accountable leadership, inclusive governance and political structures that remain connected to ordinary citizens.
He added that the event was not merely political, but also a civic expression of support for democratic values, social justice, youth inclusion and governance that prioritises the welfare of Nigerians.
The coalition also acknowledged ongoing political realignments across the country, expressing optimism that emerging reform-driven collaborations would strengthen democratic participation, national unity and inclusive governance.
DGGC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democratic accountability, peaceful civic engagement and people-centred development in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Kwankwaso commended the organisers and urged supporters to register with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as part of efforts to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
He also called on eligible Nigerians to register with INEC, stressing that voter registration remains the first step toward participating in the democratic process.
According to the former Kano State governor, citizens without valid voter cards would be unable to take part in choosing their leaders. He particularly encouraged young people and first-time voters to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise without delay.
