The Lagos State Government has denied reports of a falling-out between President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, describing the claims as baseless speculation.

Speaking during an appearance on Morning Brief on Channels Television, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said there is no evidence of any strained relationship between the two leaders.

He dismissed the reports as imaginary, likening the President’s relationship with the governor to that of a father and son. According to him, there has been no indication from the President suggesting any form of displeasure toward Sanwo-Olu.

Omotoso noted that Tinubu’s continued visits to Lagos further demonstrate a cordial relationship, stressing that no president would visit a state where there is tension with the governor. While acknowledging that the President, as Commander-in-Chief, is free to visit any state, he maintained that such engagements also reflect mutual understanding and cooperation.

Addressing speculations about succession politics ahead of the end of Sanwo-Olu’s second term in 2027, the commissioner said no discussions have begun regarding a potential successor, attributing the claims to social media rumours.

He also responded to criticism over the reported N279 billion cost of the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, defending the project as a major infrastructure investment. Omotoso highlighted the scale of the project, noting that the bridge spans over five kilometres, with a significant portion constructed as elevated roadway, and argued that such a development naturally requires substantial funding.
